Cost Control Strategies for Surgical Supplies in Obstetrics and Colorectal Surgery

2025-11-07

In recent years, new types of consumables have gradually been applied in clinical practice due to their technological advantages. It is necessary to clarify their applicable scenarios and usage precautions to avoid blind application

1. Degradable anastomotic screws

Advantages: Traditional titanium nails need to fall off by themselves within 6 to 12 months after the operation, and some patients may experience pain and irritation in the nail canal. The degradable anastomotic nail (made of polyglycolic acid) degrades within 3 to 4 weeks after the operation, reducing long-term irritation. Moreover, the degradation products can be absorbed by the human body without the risk of residue.

Applicable scenarios: PPH surgery for internal hemorrhoids and rectal mucosal folding surgery. It is especially suitable for patients who are allergic to metals or sensitive to postoperative pain.

Usage precautions

Avoid strenuous exercise (such as running and prolonged sitting) within one week after the operation to prevent the anastomotic screw from falling off prematurely and causing bleeding.

Postoperative follow-up should be conducted through an anoscope to observe the degradation of the anastomotic screw. If degradation is delayed (does not start within 4 weeks), timely intervention is required.

2. Intelligent traffic diversion device

Advantages: Traditional drainage tubes require manual observation of the volume and color of the drainage fluid, which is prone to missed judgment. The intelligent drainage device (including pressure sensor and data transmission module) can monitor the volume, flow rate and pressure of the drainage fluid in real time. The data is synchronized to the terminal of the nurse station. When there is an abnormality, it will automatically alarm (such as indicating bleeding when the drainage fluid suddenly increases).

Applicable scenarios: Residual cavity drainage after anal fistula surgery, pelvic drainage after rectal cancer surgery, especially suitable for critically ill patients or night monitoring.

Usage precautions

The device needs to be charged regularly (with a battery life of approximately 48 hours) to prevent data loss due to power failure.

The sensor probe needs to be disinfected weekly (wiped with 75% alcohol) to prevent bacterial growth and infection.

3. Bioactive wound repair membrane

Advantages: Made of biological materials such as collagen and hyaluronic acid, it can form a protective film on the wound surface and release growth factors (such as epidermal growth factor) at the same time, promoting wound healing. Its healing speed is 20%-30% faster than that of traditional vaseline gauze.

Applicable scenarios: Wound coverage after anal fissure resection and perianal abscess incision and drainage, especially suitable for people with slow healing such as diabetic patients and elderly patients.

Usage precautions

The wound surface should be thoroughly debrideed before application to avoid residual necrotic tissue affecting the adhesion of the repair membrane.

If redness, swelling and increased exudation occur at the wound site after application, the membrane should be removed promptly to rule out infection (the repair membrane should be used in a sterile environment and replaced if contaminated).
